WHOO! [Saturday, May 23rd, 2009 at 1:31pm] Hi! I totally haven't updated in a million years because I haven't been able to make it to any meetings, but that's okay! I'm back! So we have but one meeting left in this year (so sad) and it's our end-of-the-year party! There will be pizza and pop and movie watching involved! So everyone should come! The party will be on Thursday, May 28 (05.28.09) If you want to bring something else to eat, then that's good too. Chips, desserts, etc, are good! Also, this means election for next year! The positions that we'll be voting for are as follows: -PRESIDENT (must be a senior. willing to lead and organize book discussions as well as figuring out meeting dates, book pick-up, etc) -VICE PRESIDENT (must be able to do all the same stuff as the president if the president is busy or needs help) -SECRETARY (in charge of book-keeping and keeping an agenda of what we did at meetings and dates/upcoming stuff for future meetings) -TREASURER (in charge of keeping track of all the money we raise from membership fees as well as who has and hasn't payed it) -PUBLIC RELATIONS (in charge of the livejournal, publicity, and our library contacts) -FOOD AND DRINK COORDINATOR (in charge of organizing who is bringing snack/drink and when) Whoop! -jack

Current Book: Water for Elephants [Sunday, February 15th, 2009 at 12:59pm] [ mood | cranky ] [ music | I'm Ready -- Tracy Chapman ] Sorry, I know I was supposed to update earlier, but, life happens. I hope everyone had a pleasant Valentine's Day, and for everyone who's single like me, whatever...single's the way to go. Okay, so our next book is Water for Elephants by Sarah Gruen (which is amazing by the way and you should all read it, I know for sure I will). Next meeting info you will want to know: 1. The meeting is on MARCH 5, 2009 2. Please procure your own copy of the book, I'm sorry, my life is so busy right now with work and school, as I'm sure yours is, that I just can't go up to the library right now and talk to Ana about the book. I might be able to talk to her over break for the next books, but right now I have a lot on my plate. 3. Also, please have the whole book read by next meeting, this gives you three weeks with the break, and the book is so good you won't want to put it down anyway. 4. Snack: Jen 5. The plan for now if to have our annual GBC non-denominational holiday super awesome party extravaganza on Friday, December 19. Next Meeting: November 6 (11/06/08) -Try to have half of the Time Traveler's Wife ready to discuss (that's about to page 264) -Snack: Lyd -Drink: Cara -Bring $5 if you haven't already! Also, it is very important that if you have not returned your borrowed copy of The Kite Runner to Mrs. Dean's room, you must do so as soon as possible! Very important, my friends. If, for some reason, you have to return your copy of The Time Traveler's Wife early, you can bring it to Mrs. Dean's room as well. Current Book: The Kite Runner [Wednesday, October 15th, 2008 at 6:35pm] Hey guys! Sorry I have neglected to update for so long. I'm always so busy, it's ridiculous! Anyway, I have several very important messages for you all! Next Meeting: October 23 (10/23/08) -Have the rest of The Kite Runner read so we can go ahead and discuss it! -Snack: Genevieve or Caitlin (Genevieve said she may not be able to bring snack, but we'll figure something out) -Drink: Me! -Bring $5 for Lydia (our treasurer) if you haven't already this year -I should have copies of The Time Traveler's Wife (our next book) to pass out then if everything goes according to plan! Keep those fingers crossed, kids. The other big thing I have to tell you is all about our homecoming banner! Tara's already finished painting it, but we need people to come walk it in the parade. If you're interested in coming to hold our wonderful banner up during the half-time show of the Salem Football homecoming game (this friday (10/17/08) @ 7), then you must be there before the half-time show. There is an admission fee, so be prepared for that. I don't know all of the specifics, but if you're really interested, send Tara an e-mail or leave a comment. I think that's everything. Current Book: The Kite Runner [Thursday, September 25th, 2008 at 4:30pm] Hello People! For our new members (and to some of our old members who never checked this last year), good job finding this website!!! It contains all the ultra-important information about the PCEP Great Books Club! So here are some updates for you: As you know from attending the meeting today, our first book is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. You can pick up one of the remaining copies from Mrs. Dean's room, but remember that it's a first-come-first-serve basis and also, if you borrow one of the books from the room you must make sure to return it or else we will hunt you down. Next Meeting: October 9th, 2008 (10/09/08) -Try to have half of The Kite Runner done so we can discuss it. Remember! If you can't finish it (or even start it) you can still come to the meeting! We love you anyway! -Snack: Caitlin -Drink: Lidiya -Bring $5 if you haven't already (remember that you only need to pay the fee once per school year) Also! We chose our very first book list for the new school year! w00t! w00t!
